WHAT COOKIES ARE

A cookie is a small text file that a website leaves on your device so it can remember something about your visit. Some are needed to make the website work at all. Others are used to count visitors or to advertise. This page explains which ones we use and why.
COOKIES THAT ARE STRICTLY NECESSARY

These make the website function, and the site cannot work without them. They do not need your permission and cannot be switched off:
- Remembering what is in your shopping basket as you move between pages
- Carrying your order safely through checkout and payment
- Keeping the site secure and preventing fraudulent orders
- Remembering that you have already responded to our cookie notice, so we do not keep asking
These are set by Squarespace, the platform our website runs on, and by our payment provider.
OUR OWN VISITOR STATISTICS

We use the visitor statistics built into Squarespace to see how many people visit the site, which pages they look at and how they found us. We use this only to understand what is working and to improve our own website. The information is not shared with anyone else for their own purposes, and it is not used to advertise to you.
Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations as amended by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, this kind of first-party statistical measurement does not require your consent — but you do have the right to object, free of charge. If you would rather we did not count your visit, you can:
- Decline statistics in our cookie notice, if it is showing; or
- Turn on "Do Not Track" or block cookies in your browser settings; or
- Email sales@empirelinenhouse.com and we will tell you how to opt out
ADVERTISING AND TRACKING COOKIES

We do not currently use Google Analytics, Facebook or Instagram tracking pixels, or any other advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. If we add any in future, we will ask for your consent first and update this page before switching them on.
We do use Google Search Console to see which search terms bring people to our site. This works from Google's own search records and does not place any cookie on your device.
MANAGING COOKIES YOURSELF

Every browser lets you see the cookies a site has set, delete them, and block new ones. The instructions are in your browser's settings, usually under Privacy. Be aware that blocking all cookies will stop our shopping basket and checkout from working.
